Advocacy Update from Addy Tuney 9/11/19

Vapers, we desperately need your help.  Vaping is under heavy attack from several different angles because it has been so disruptive to the status quo money flow. Big pharma cessation product sales (Chantix) are down a billion dollars from previous years. Big annual payouts to individual states from the big tobacco master settlement agreement (MSA payouts based on yearly tobacco sales) are also on a downward slide (Michigan received 1 billion last year but now forecast to receive a lot less next year). Millions of smokers have transitioned to vaping which is also very bad for the big healthcare business.

If you don’t know already, most politicians legally accept donations from big pharma, big tobacco, and big healthcare lobbyists. Bottom line is the recent deaths from tainted THC liquid and the so-called teen vaping epidemic (less than 3% of youth vape daily when the numbers are broken down but still needs to be addressed) is all the media (heavily funded from big pharma ad revenue), politicians and big philanthropic needed to advance their neutering of the vaping industry.

Bills and executive orders to ban flavor and/or hardware are coming out fast and heavy. Here are a few easy things you can do to help:

1. Contact your specific representatives here. I typed up a couple of quick paragraphs stating about what vaping did for me, how flavors were crucial in quitting. I also regularly text 50409 (easily converts text messages to email and sends to your specific reps).
2. Talk to non-vapers/friends/family and your doctor about what vaping has done for you. Mention the Royal College of Physicians vaping study that found vaping is at least 95% less harmful than combustible tobacco (no tar, no carbon monoxide, and nicotine is not a carcinogen). Mention how the California Dept of Health found secondhand vapor in a busy vape shop was not harmful and actually cleaner than breathing the air on the busy street outside.
3. Follow these vaping rights organizations and their calls to actions:
