Vaporesso Barr Pod System Kit – Full Review!

Introduction

Simplicity often goes unappreciated, especially in the vape world.  I have a shelf full of mods that have more adjustments and controls than my phone.  I need a mod to be able to adjust wattage, count puffs, time my drags, read resistance, display battery life, and read voltage.  Oh, and though I will never use it, it should have temperature control.  If you can pack all that into a mod with a touch screen display that would be great, thanks.  (Did you read that last sentence in a condescending voice?)

I have all these features at my fingertips and only a fraction of them get used.  I set the wattage, glance at the battery life, and every once in awhile, only out of curiosity, I peek at the puff counter.  What am I supposed to do with that information?  Is it supposed to make me consider vaping less, or encourage me to step my game up and vape more?

My point is that sometimes all the bells, whistles, and moving parts are unnecessary.  (This doesn’t even include the atomizers that break down into eight pieces.)  For beginners especially, it all can be overwhelming and a roadblock to a healthier smoke-free life.  With the Vaporesso Barr, all that is unnecessary has been eliminated.  It is a simple, straight forward device that leaves the vaper with only the complexity of the e-liquid to consider.

In the Hand

The Vaporesso Barr is super slim and sleek.  Given its size, you would expect it to be light, and it is, but its alloy construction adds just enough heft.  I’ve put slim, plastic devices in my shirt pocket and have forgotten about them.  That alone doesn’t sound terrible, but if you forget it’s there, you won’t know where you lost it.  The Barr is just heavy enough to remind you that you’re carrying something, but not heavy enough to be a burden.  Plus, the weight conveys its durability.

Yes, it is sleek, but it isn’t slick.  Vaporesso has added some texture to the coating to provide grip in the hand.  Sometimes texture on a device prevents it from being slipped in and out of the pocket easily, getting snagged or stuck against the clothing’s fabric.  The texture is only slightly “grippy,” making for a smooth pocket to hand transition.

The Pods

Filling the pods takes a little concentration given their size and smokey color.  There is a small rubber stopper that pulls up to reveal the fill port.  Since the pods are not made with a clear plastic it can be hard to see the amount of e-liquid you are putting in and how much you have remaining before needing to refill.

On each side of the square pod is a small mark signifying different levels of airflow.  One dash being the tightest, to four dashes being the most open.  Simply line up your chosen airflow with the air inlets on the battery body and you’ve adjusted the airflow.

Installing the pods into the device is a simple click.  There are no magnets or latches.  Press the pod into the device and when you hear it click, it’s in place.  There is no rattle or movement once it is in.  It feels very secure and it is tight enough that it won’t fall out.  Taking out the pod requires a bit of a tug, and with greasy fingers, might be a little tough.  It’s a well thought out and constructed device.

Charging

Charging the Vaporesso Barr is quick and easy with the Type-C cable.  Although it is a bit short, it is a good quality braided cable.  If you’re a heavy vaper you might be recharging often considering it is only a 350mAh battery.  No worries though, because charging the device from zero to one hundred percent takes less than an hour.  A longer charging cable would’ve been nice to allow an easier vape while charging.

The Vape Experience

For my tastes, the 1.2Ω pod was a little airy, even on the tightest airflow.  With a draw activated firing mechanism, there is always a delay between the drag and the firing of the coil.  When you couple that with a less than tight airflow, you don’t get a very dense vape.  Having an optional firing button would have boosted the quality of the vape considerably.

The flavor of the pod is excellent.  I wouldn’t expect anything less from Vaporesso.  I used a free base and a salt nic e-liquid, both in a 50/50 blend.  The coils had no problem keeping up and I never had a dry hit.  I can’t say with certainty how a heavier juice (like a 70/30 or an 80/20) would perform, but I am not certain that is what this device was designed to accommodate, given its resistance is 1.2Ω.

Vaporesso Barr – Final Thoughts

I can’t tell you this will be the best vaping experience you will find.  I don’t think this is the goal of the Vaporesso Barr.  Most of the “cons” I have listed are subject to the size of the device.  This is a small, portable, easy to use device that won’t break the bank.  In my opinion, if that is the aim, it is right on target.

Who will get the most out of this pod kit?  I think people new to vaping who want something simple to help them get off of cigarettes will appreciate this device.  Experienced vapers who are looking for a stealthy, pocket-able vape for nic salts and MTL vaping might also want to check this out.  Vaporesso has brought us, with success, many devices for the varying styles of vaping, and they can consider this one a success as well.
